VLC Media Player is part of the VideoLan Project. What started out ,in 1996, as a French student school project has evolved into a worldwide project with developers from 20 countries.

  1. VLC is easy to love. No codecs to download, you can drag and drop what you want to play if you don’t want to add it to the playlist, and it displays song information simply without cluttering anything.

    The only complaint I have is that the additional options other than the obvious ones, and advanced options, seem to require being technically-inclined. Because of that, the preferences/options aren’t necessarily user-friendly.
