When it comes to Windows and sharing, the two items together might not seem to match. We share documents in an e-mail, or send a link in a mail message to someone. Typically it involves either a copy /paste of the item, or a file attachment. In Windows 8.1 though, Microsoft included a variety of options available for sharing that may be able to save a few extra steps and share with others a little easier.

Let’s say you need to share what’s currently displayed on your screen. You could take a screen shot and send it all in one button click by having the item open, locating the charms, and selecting share. You’ll be prompted to send it in a mail message.

You can also share files and links all in one as well. The instructions are listed below to help.

Enjoy the gift of sharing!

To share files

1. In an app (a.k.a program), swipe the item you want to share to select it. (If you’re using a mouse, right-click the item you want to share to select it.)

2. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Share.(If you’re using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Share.)

3. Tap or click the person, app, or device you want to share with, and follow the on-screen instructions.
