PC Matic’s New Ad Blocking Feature
A recent review of our users showed that only 5% of them have ad blocking software. However, there is a dark side to online advertisements. iYogi hasbeen putting up ads intended to confuse our customers. Through their efforts to impersonate us, they have been tricking customers into paying hundreds of dollars to “fix” fabricated issues, and that is only one of the disadvantages to being bombarded with ads. Recent reports also suggest that several popular sites have been serving ‘poisoned web advertising’ that carries malware and adware.
To protect our customers from fraudulent activity & malware concealed inside web advertising, we have developed an adblock tool as part of PC Matic. Not only does it filter out Ads that appear on web pages that are intrusive, and undesirable, it also cuts down on the amount of bandwidth being used, improving your overall web browsing experience. A recent study performed by Simon Fraser University showed that installing an adblocker can reduce bandwidth usage by 25% – 40%.
By adding this free additional functionality, we are protecting our image and our customers’ computers, as well as speeding up their machines.

Here are the steps to enable Ad Blocking functionality:
Currently the only way to get the Ad Blockers is to uninstall and reinstall the latest version of PC Matic.
This can be done by:
1. Downloading the latest at http://pcmatic.com/download
2. Run the installer, it will prompt to uninstall, and then launch the reinstall.
3. IE users – the ad blocking feature will run on it’s own with no prompts.
Firefox & Chrome users – a pop will prompt you with ‘PC Matic is trying to install an extension/add on, click allow to allow this’. Once you allow it, there will be a SuperShield logo on your browser, if it is green it is blocking, if it’s red it is not blocking.

I am currently running McAfee. Can I also run PC Matic?
Hi Frank, we do not encourage using multiple real-time security solutions at the same time. You can do so, but they will likely conflict with each other.
I am currently running McAfee. Can I also run PC Matic?
You can, but you do not need to. PC Matic would fully replace your McAfee protection and provide you with superior security — preventing all unknown and known malicious applications from running on your device.
Hi,
I need to disable the ad blocker for one site. How do I do that? I can’t figure it out. Thanks.

Cheryl, you can disable the ad blocker for one site by clicking on the green PC Matic shield in your browser and then clicking the large power icon while you’re on the site you want to disable it on. It will remain off on that website until you turn it back on.

PC Matic . the green shield is not in the lower right hand corner its on the left but I can't always access it. I have many problems with Windows 10 but not sure if it is my laptop. I have uninstalled PC Matic twice and reinstalled it but not sure if I've done it right.
What about Surface, or tablet users?
You can click on the green shield icon in the lower right corner of the Windows desktop screen by the time display and pause the protection for ten minutes, one hour, or leave it off until the next reboot, or you can set the Protection Level to Industry Standard (Blacklist only) to turn off Super Shield and just leave the Real Time protection running, or you can select SuperShield Protection, then set the Blocking Notification Method to Prompt for Override (Advanced), open the program in question again, and when the SuperShield blocking screen appears, add the programs to your local white list by clicking on the red “Always Allow” button, provided that you know for sure that these are legitimate programs, or add them to the local black list by clicking on the green “Always Block” button to avoid seeing the warning screen for that specific executable.

@Richard Ingram:
The WOT rating is largely based on factually inaccurate statements and is very outdated. The overwhelming majority of comments posted there this year are supportive and positive.
Been working on this and found out that Ad Blocker work when I use Administrator account, but not regular account. Any thing I can change ?
Will this automatically update or do we have to download it ?
I have win 10 and internet explorer. When I try to use the Ad Blocker, Internet explorer says that it is incompatiible and won't allow it to run. How do I get it run run?
I got hacked by iYogi. I needed to reach them quickly and could not find a phone number in an email easily, so I googled pcmatic. I first got a lady with a strong accent and got a bad feeling when she said my computer needed updates. Looked up another ad and called a DIFFERENT toll free number and got a guy with an accent and he asked a bunch of questions and I did the worst thing possible. I let him take over my computer and told me I needed to have him update my computer for about $250 and when I said that was outrageous, he dropped the price for a shorter period of time. I refused to agree to updates and hung up. Within minutes, I could not even access my computer, so I got on my iPad and immediately started changing all my passwords. Hired someone to completely wipe my computer and start over reinstalling everything. At first I was angry with PCmatic, but when I realized that I had pressure to reach them and did not follow my standard protocol and look at the website address that I was clicking on in my google search. I am a pretty seasoned computer user and had a small business and was used to deceiving ads and bogus websites and info, so if they could do this to me, it would be very easy to deceive less informed users.
Do I already have the ad blocking on my computer? I see the logo displays a green shield.
Ooops! Sounds like iYogi got allot of my money I tried reaching PC Matic on Sunday with a nasty PC issue. When I dailed the 800 number on the PC Matic web page and assumed they were your weekend trouble shooting team. They did find the issues but the fix was suspeciously expensive.
@William Del Biondo:
PC Matic does not offer phone based support and does not publish a phone number on our website.

You could at least provide a link to the software upgrade?
The adds and pop ups is what hackers use and do to get into a system. It sends up warning signs then the hackers monitor your security then mimic the type of security in order to either take over the system leaving it with bare minimum usage of the system applications or to shut you out of your system completely. Blocking adds might hurt business, but what about the thousands of dollars spent on replacing equipment that could be used for other things?
Ever since I installed Windows 10, Super Shield blocks me from playing my Microsoft games, GameHouse games and one game I purchased years ago. So I uninstalled it.
@Deb Scott: Budy just run the app as a admin and it will go threw pc matic
