Not long ago, the government encouraged stated to strengthen their security over voting, but is it too late?
New York Daily News reported 20 different states were flagged with a variety of “scanning activities” which makes the FBI question if they were attempts to hack the voter registration systems.
Earlier this year, Arizona and Illinois experienced hacks of their election systems, leaving over 200,000 files exposed. It was then, that the FBI encouraged states to strengthen their cyber security measures. Unfortunately, those warnings may have been ignored.
With the most recent revelation of voter registrations being hacked in 20 different states, it begs the question – When will information technology be taken seriously? Previous reports have shared how difficult it would be to hack the election system. And we discussed the advanced levels it would take to successfully hack the election, without detection in a previous post. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
When will our government not only urge, but require a higher level of security for the information of not only our citizens, but the data that decides our next president?
