New Malware, FakeBank, Targets Android Devices
A new malware has been circulating on Android devices. The malware, deemed FakeBank, infects Android devices through third-party apps and website downloads. Once in the device, FakeBank will reroutes the user’s bank calls to scammers instead.
Also, the cyber criminals also have the ability to mask their phone number as the banking institution, so they may call the users claiming to be from their bank. Although, this risk only presents itself for users who are running versions of the Android operating system previous to Android 8. Security measures were built into the Android 8 and newer operating systems, which are able to block the scammers from taking over the caller ID and presenting as a legitimate bank.
At this time, the banks targeted are primarily in South Korea. However, if the scam is successful, there is no reason why it would not spread throughout the globe.

To thwart malware infects on your Android devices, be sure to read the end-user license agreement, terms and conditions, and permissions you’re granting the app. Also, be sure to run a security solution on the device.
