Is there a need for an automotive security solution? It may seem far fetched, that a hacker would attempt to exploit your automobile’s vulnerabilities. Some may even question if it is possible. To be clear, it is. In 2016, we wrote about the ability to remotely hack vehicles, by exploiting their security vulnerabilities. In the video below, you can see the security team demonstrating the ability to remotely access the Tesla’s braking system, opening the sunroof, moving the seats, and turning on the windshield wipers.
The security industry has been aware of these issues for quite some time. However, it takes time and money to create a security solution that will patch these security gaps. Uptane is claiming to be that solution. Uptane is a software update framework for vehicles, which mitigates the risk of security attacks by addressing the vehicle’s specific vulnerabilities and limitations.
We sincerely hope this solution is as effective as it claims, as it is only a matter of time before hackers begin to exploit our automobiles’s security vulnerabilities.
