Rhode Island Health Center Suffers Ransomware Attacks

Thundermist Health Center of Rhode Island Suffers Cyber Attack

On November 28, 2018, Thundermist Health Center was hit by a ransomware attack.  The medical facility shut down all networks once the cyber attack was found, in order to minimize the threat spreading further.  Meaning, medical professionals had no access to the patient’s electronic health records.  Therefore, all appointments that could not be carried out safely without the electronic records were canceled.

Overall, the facility acted quickly and followed their emergency plan.  By doing so, they were able to minimize damage, limit the impact on patient care, and restore their systems to full functionality as quickly as possible.

The exact variant that infiltrated the networks remains unknown.
