Oregon School Attacked By Ransomware

Oregon school district, Grant County Education Service District, shut down county and school email and internet operations after ransomware attack…

Blue Mountain Eagle reported email and internet operations are back up and running after a ransomware attack forced Grant County Education Service District (ESD) offline earlier this week.  Superintendent for the district, Robert Waltenburg, reported the ransomware attack was of the .LOL! variant.

Although ESD is working to get all of their servers back online, Waltenburg reported a certain sense of paranoia doing so.  The district is proceeding with extra caution when returning back to normal operations, and is working closely with their IT team to enhance their security measures in an attempt to prevent any future attacks.

ESD continues to work diligently to determine the root of the attack.  It is believed it was a successful phishing scam.  It is not being reported what the ransom demand was, or if it was paid.

We have generated an interactive map that includes all of the ransomware attacks within the United States that have occurred this year.
