Oklahoma’s Largest School District Struggles to Recover After Cyber Attack

Oklahoma City Public Schools Falls Victim to Ransomware

Earlier this week, Oklahoma City Public School (OKCPS) District confirmed they had been infected with an unknown ransomware variant. Despite their efforts to minimize damages, Oklahoma’s News 4 stated things continue to get worse.

OKCPS officials have confirmed the school email systems are down and will remain down until the damages can be assessed. School officials are resistant to rush the process of getting networks back online, as they do not want the malware to continue to spread. The school IT staff is working with a third-party forensics team in an effort to remove the ransomware. It is then their plan to restore their networks back to full-functionality, as they were prior to the cyber attack. Currently, there is no timeline available regarding how long this process will take.
