However, state and local governments aren’t getting it. They aren’t updating their devices to patch vulnerabilities, they aren’t closing unused RDP ports, and they continue to permit unknown files to execute. How bad does it have to get, before changes are made?
The Latest Attack – Fayette County, Ohio
Fayette County in Ohio is the latest victim. Fortunately, they had timely backup files that were not infected as a result of the attack. County officials reported the IT team will work to restore the network using those backup files.
The attack took place on Sunday, June 23rd. As a result, some county devices have been deemed inoperable and email systems remain down to this day. The exact infection method is unknown at this time; however, the county is conducting a forensic investigation to determine the full extent of the attack. So far, there has been no evidence of a data breach.
