Important Security Update: RMMs Must Be Added to Your PC Matic Custom Allowlists

Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools are essential for many organizations, but they have also become one of the most common targets for cybercriminal abuse. Attackers hijack these legitimate tools to gain control of systems, spread ransomware, and maintain persistence inside networks.

PC Matic has already taken a strict approach with Remote Access Tools (RATs), blocking them by default. We are now extending this protection to RMMs.

Starting October 1st, all RMM applications will be blocked by default unless they are added to your custom allowlist.

This gives you direct control over which remote tools are trusted in your environment.

What You Need to Do

Key Details

  • This change will affect all endpoints where PC Matic is deployed, not just new installations.
  • If your vendor updates their certificate, you will need to add the new certificate to your allowlist.
  • A standard “blocked unknown” popup will appear if an RMM is blocked, giving you the option to override if you have that feature enabled. Otherwise, changes must be made in the portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my current RMM stop working after this change?
Yes, unless it is added to your custom allowlist. Once allowlisted, it will continue to work. For more details on troubleshooting, see: Why is My RMM Being Blocked?.

Do I need to re-allowlist my RMM if the vendor updates it?
Yes, a new certificate will need to be added. We recognize this is a pain point and are working on improvements.

Can I see a list of RMMs that PC Matic has designated?
We will provide additional visibility in the future by updating the PAR with new classification fields.

Will this interfere with vendor support sessions?
If the tool they use is not allowlisted, it will be blocked. To allow it, you will need to add it to your allowlist.

Why are you making this change?
RMM abuse is one of the fastest growing threats. This update ensures you decide which remote tools can run, greatly reducing the risk of compromise. For more context, see: What Are Remote Access Tools and Why Scammers Love Them.
