The Malicious Software that Doesn’t Slow Down…

Ransomware recently took down the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s website.  The infection was reported earlier this month, and it took 11 days for the website to be restored.  The ransomware variant and ransom demands were not released.  However, officials reported they were able to restore systems using their backup files.  While the systems were down, businesses and individuals were unable to apply online for licenses for livestock, pesticides, horse stables and more.  Although, these businesses and individuals were able to renew or apply for these licenses by phone.

Ransomware also infected the offices of Golden Optometrics.  The optometry clinic that was infected is located in West Covina, California.  According to the facilities statement, the malicious software infiltrated a limited number of files on the local system.  Therefore, it is not believed the Whittier office was impacted.  Officials reported, they were able to restore the systems using backup files.  It is not believed any of the data encrypted was stolen; however, the facility is notifying patients of the infection.
