Webroot Whoops…
Yesterday, major issues arose for the millions of users of Webroot. The well-known anti-virus began classifying several different Windows files as general malware, leaving critical files quarantined. Therefore, Windows was not able to fully function. As if that wasn’t bad enough, ZDNet reports,
“Many independent tweets confirmed that several major websites, including Bloomberg and Facebook, were also marked as phishing sites, preventing users from accessing their pages.”
Company officials have acknowledged the issue and reported a fix is in the works now. Unfortunately, a definitive timeline has not been provided.
Tough day for Webroot. Or should we say, tough year…
Not the First Time
In early February of this year, Webroot pushed an update which crippled some of their users’ PCs. The update reportedly impacted a minority of their user base. Of those that were impacted, their PCs were not able to function due to the inability to boot-up. The Register reported, there were workarounds to get the computers functioning. Although, in order to do so, the anti-virus would have to be disabled.
