PC Matic Includes Adblocker Technology

To protect our customers from fraudulent activity & malware concealed inside web advertising, we have developed an adblocking tool as part of PC Matic. In addition to blocking popups, tech support scams, and intrusive ads, it also cuts down on the amount of bandwidth being used, improving your overall web browsing experience.

After installing PC Matic, when you open your browser, PC Matic’s adblocker will spring into action.

The adblocker is compatible with Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Internet Explorer.

Chrome & Firefox
A pop will prompt you with ‘PC Matic is trying to install an extension/add on, click allow to enable this’. Once enabled, there will be a SuperShield logo at the top right of the browser, if green it is blocking, if red it is not blocking.

Edge does not allow extensions to be automatically installed. After installing PC Matic, the next time you reboot you will see Edge automatically open with instructions on how to install and enable the Edge adblocker. Once installed, it will appear in the upper right hand corner as a green SuperShield icon.

Internet Explorer
The ad blocking feature will run on its own with no prompts. A shield icon will show in the lower right corner of the Internet Explorer browser window.

  1. Hello;
I recently installed PC Matic on my computer that uses Microsoft explorer with windows 10.
I never see the “Super Shield” symbol any where or at anytime on my screen. Is there something

    1. Hello Thomas, to check if Super Shield is installed, check in the system tray of your computer. It can be found int he lower right corner, and you may need to expand it by clicking the small arrow. If you’re still not seeing the icon, please reach out to our support team for assistance at http://www.pcmatic.com/help.

    1. Hello Robert, the easiest way to add the Ad Blocker back in is to uninstall and reinstall PC Matic on that computer. If you need any assistance with that our support team is available 7 days a week at pcmatic.com/help.

You can still go to sites that have ads. The software will just block the pop up ads that would otherwise populate your browser.

  2. When I open a third tab in Firefox, the PC Matic shield in the upper-right corner turns red. Does the adblocker not work on more than two tabs at a time?

      1. Hello Kayla,

Regarding the red-colored icon–it turned green as soon as I actually “entered” a search term. I am new to Firefox–Google Chrome has become unusable for me due to pop-up ads even with your product showing “Super Shield Protection” check-marked–and I just discovered this idiosyncratic feature. Clicking the + for a new tab always (apparently) results in the SS shield icon initially appearing red. Due to the last four weeks of grief with malware/adware, I was reluctant at first to enter a search term with the icon displayed in red.

Satisfied, for now, that Adblocker is functioning with Firefox, I do have other questions:
Are literally hundreds of ads blocked in just a few hours now the normal state of affairs?
I tried Internet Explorer without ad-ons (from Start menu) and with “Super Shield Protection” enabled; I was still inundated with pop-ups to the point that IE was unusable–can you explain?
I had the same results with Google Chrome–again, why?
Does “Super Shield Protection” only work with the designated default browser?

I preferred the earlier, non-chrome version of Google for the ability to save “Web Archive” files, which can be viewed off-line. I also preferred its method of handling and displaying saved favorites.

Both Google browsers allowed “Ctrl-F” text string searches of page content, which I find highly useful. Firefox does not seem to enable “Ctrl-F” searches–am I missing something?

PS: I have run several scans and fixes since installing PC Matic–the issues noted are subsequent to clean reports.

  3. Since downloading PC Matic my computer is running very slow. I need to speak to a tech! How can I reach one by phone?

Unfortunately, we do not offer phone based support. In our 16+ years of business, we have found online support to be the most efficient and effective for our customers. You may submit a help desk ticket at http://www.pcmatic.com/help.
