16K Medical Records Left Exposed After Ransomware Infected Network

Thousands of Patient Records Exposed Post-Ransomware Attack

Mind and Motion Developmental Centers of Georgia was a victim of ransomware in September 2018.  Not only did the hackers infect the system with and unknown ransomware variant, but they also installed various other forms of malware that breached the security of approximately 16,000 patient files.  The data exposed included names, addresses, medical records, and Social Security numbers.

After a full investigation, it was determined the malware did not spread into different networks within the Mind and Motion systems.

As a result of the breach, officials have changed all passwords and required advanced security measures while creating new passwords.  In addition, all employees will complete HIPPA compliance training.
