However, it has been a reliable desktop where I keep the major part of my work and all other information. I do have newer laptops that are good for portability but it's good to have a main PC where I know where everything is.

12/10/2009 2:45:42 AM Love this PC and as I'm retired, no chance of replacing it so it's paramount that I keep in in good running order. Lately,despite defragging, it seems to hang on booting. Suspect a software conflict in that Norton probably updates as other programmes are loading. I'm wary about reducing the number of start menu programmes as several of them have unfamiliar names and I don't want to make matters worse. Regualr virus scans have come up clear.

9/14/2012 12:41:04 AM recently the computer complained about a bad pool caller error. I first contacted safer network forum and they ran a battery of tests. My handler suspected hardware problems and sent me here. I have attempted to run chkdsk but that will fail 2% into the second of 5 checks (verifying indexes). Computer then locks up and monitor claims "no signal input". I'm worried that I've been hit with a virus or I have hardware issues (hard drive giving out). Also, I attempted to run windows backup but that also fails. The directory is created on my portable drive (1tb) but the backup fails. I'm currently back at safer networking forum as they wanted to run additional tests, but he suggested that I also use the PIT test to see what you come up with. Many Thanks for your patience. 1/17/2011 8:19:05 AM o somewhat slow internet navigation o slow (e.g., compared to my work computer) opening Windows/Office Programs o cannot access internet without numerous 'Tracking Cookies' contaminating computer (this only started recently) o sometimes (albeit not freq) lose all desktop icons and have to reboot o some system/app event(s) have invoked a VB/C Program Editor/Debugger (rare) -- maybe I previously installed a VB Program recognized by a System App, etc. so the App calls up this Editor/Debugger when an issue arises (like a memory leak(??), etc.)

3/12/2010 4:38:52 AM For the average non-geek putz like me, trying to keep the pc running is unbearably annoying....if only the was ONE location or program on these os's that you could go to that would tell you what needs to be done, run, deleted, scanned and how often...what is safe to delete and what is not. I realize it is old but there is no reason for it to run this slowly. I had faster page loads when I was on dial-up several years ago.
