If I do I must remove the CMOS and then it will work. I have changed the motherboard but it didn't help. I think the proble is in the on/off circuitry.

Microsoft Securities Essentials found it and removed it, but this CA software found that 19% of the PC was infected with Trojans. I pray this PC is now safe. The DVD and CD would not save files and it better now.

1/7/2010 6:28:58 PM it seems to be running slower lately, can't find obvious reasons why, such as adware. the computer seemed to randomly shut off - 6 times or so over the last week and 1/2. the fan on the power supply doesn't spin - i don't know it that's normal (some power supply fans only spin when they reach a certain temp, perhaps?)

I have use AVG and PC Tools, Registry Booster, Easyclean and other software to ensure nothing is running, virus or malware/spyware but all comes up ok. I have to power off by the dell button (10 secs) when it locks up as the taskmanager and other progs do not react.

I also have Windows 10 on my laptop but I find it very complicated and much harder to use - I guess I am old fashioned. And I think I bought this computer in 2003 - not listed on your "When was this PC purchased?"

4/28/2014 8:13:00 PM It has run slow for years, most likely because I am the one who set it up! I was a novice when I bought it (but I have since notched up to a "novice +")! Anyway, the biggest problem is that the CPU will sometimes "hiccup/stop" because a "system error" notice pops up on the screen, especially when the internet screen has a lot of color. The notice asks if I want to "debug". I have learned to say no to its request to "debug" realizing it takes less time with "no" than with "yes"for that annoying pop-up to stop aooearing! Basically, whether a "yes" or "no" it takes at least 5 to 8 teies and the notice finally disappears, but no "debugging" has ever taken place as far as I know. But, I should add that my initial "notice" staus caused me to overrun the free 30-day period for no-cost DELL help such that I was asked to pay DELL in order to get their help in stting up my programs ("software" in geek terminology (I think). The Dimension 4550 is OK and I figure that I have another 10 years of use out of it (with this high-tech" PCMatic now in effect!!!!! Nuff said. Thanks for reading, if you have hung on this long.

I can't believe it is the same computer I sent to him 3 days ago and he did not upgrade the RAM or anything he just cleaned it up and updated the services packs for me and it rns great now. He talks highly of your products and will use them on all of his systems for his up coming company.

7/25/2010 12:12:27 PM This PC picked up a virus a couple of months back while using Stopzilla. The Stopzilla product was not able to remove it so I switched to AVG as my virus protection. While AVG was able to remove all virus products, PC is still slow (takes 30 seconds after clicking Mozilla Firefox to connect to internet). Not sure what all the other disk activity is but generally the PC operates much slower since picking up the virus and I still suspect that remnants or other changes the virus may have made have not been cleared up.

3/13/2011 5:12:02 PM I have recently put on Norton Security and have had terrible problems ever since. Prior to Norton I had Kaspersky. I was told that Kaspersky slows the computer down. (It did run slower than McAfee but I contributed it to having more security software than McAfee) I am at a loss as to what to do now.

11/22/2010 3:16:55 PM In recent months has very stop/start when several windows are open when suring the web and sometimes locks-up. No amount of clean-ups ie emptying temp file folders and the like and even defragmenting the hard-drive does not improve things. Also having the log-on to the web and start-up of my e-mail program really slows the PC down and sometimes fails to make a connection to default browser.
