{"id":60668,"date":"2019-03-11T11:45:22","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T16:45:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/?p=60668"},"modified":"2019-03-11T11:45:26","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T16:45:26","slug":"google-advises-windows-7-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/google-advises-windows-7-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Advises Windows 7 Users to Update Their Systems ASAP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chrome Users Exposed to Two Zero-Day Attacks, One of Which Remains Unresolved for Windows 7 Users<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It should be no secret that <a href=\"https:\/\/techtalk.pcpitstop.com\/2019\/01\/22\/microsoft-ends-windows-7-support-2020\/\">Microsoft will be ending their support for the Windows 7 operating system in January of 2020<\/a>.  However, due to the recent exploitation of two <a href=\"https:\/\/techtalk.pcpitstop.com\/2017\/06\/09\/zero-day-attacks-stay-protected\/\">zero-day vulnerabilities<\/a> within the Chrome browser, one of which being specifically tied to Windows 7 machines, Google is encouraging users to update their systems to Windows 10 as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To date, one of the security gaps have been patched and updated through Chrome.  To ensure you&#8217;re running that latest version, follow these steps: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open your Chrome browser<\/li><li>Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner<\/li><li>Hover over &#8220;Help&#8221; <\/li><li>Click on &#8220;About Google Chrome&#8221;<\/li><li>A new browser page will populate which will disclose which Chrome version is currently being ran on the PC<\/li><li> Ensure you&#8217;re running version 72.0.3626.121 <\/li><li>If updates are needed, it will display on the browser page<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This fix is just for one of the security issues.  The second isn&#8217;t capable of being as easily solved.  According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.komando.com\/happening-now\/553498\/google-strongly-advises-windows-7-users-to-upgrade-due-to-chrome-zero-day-attacks\">Komando<\/a>, this vulnerability is found within the win32.sys kernel driver, a key component to Windows 7.  To date, there has yet to be a patch deployed for this security vulnerability.  Since hackers are not only aware of the security gap, but already actively exploiting it, it is important Windows 7 users be proactive and update their operating systems to Windows 10 as quickly as possible.
