The Redwood Eye Center, located in Vallejo, California, recently notified approximately 16,000 patients their\u00a0personal information may have been compromised due to a cyber attack.\u00a0 On September 19, 2018\u00a0the Redwood Eye Center’s third-party vendor, IT Lighthouse suffered a ransomware attack.\u00a0 This malicious infection impacted the vendor’s database which included Redwood Eye Center’s patient records.\u00a0 The information stored on the server included patient names, addresses, dates of birth, health insurance information, and medical treatment information.<\/p>\n
Redwood Eye Center’s IT department and a digital forensic team is working to restore access to the encrypted files.\u00a0 At this time, there is no evidence the exposed data has been leaked or used maliciously.\u00a0 At this time, this cyber attack is only being identified as a ransomware attack — not a security breach.<\/p>\n
