Ransomware Hits PGA’s American Servers Days Before Tournament<\/h3>\n

The Professional Golf Association (PGA) has been the most recent victim of ransomware.\u00a0 As their tournament is about to kick off in St. Louis, Missouri, the PGA has found all of their American servers encrypted with ransomware.\u00a0 Meaning, all of the data on those servers is inaccessible by the PGA.\u00a0 The only way to restore the data is through backups.\u00a0 Hackers also offer to unlock the files for you, as long as you pay them first.\u00a0 Although, there is no guarantee they will indeed restore the files.<\/p>\n

Hackers have indeed requested a payment in bitcoin, a digital currency.\u00a0 However, the specific amount has not been specified.<\/p>\n

The data encrypted includes\u00a0promotional banners and logos that were to be used for this tournament, as well as development work on logos for future PGA Championships.<\/p>\n

Officials have reported the tournament will take place as scheduled.<\/p>\n
