Another ransomware attack has been executed.\u00a0 This time, the victim was North Carolina’s Davidson County.\u00a0 Officials noticed an issue with their systems on February 16, 2018.\u00a0 The malicious infection took down several county office networks, forcing employees to go back to pen and paper.\u00a0 It remains unclear if the emergency systems are fully operational; however, officials reported<\/a> 911 calls are still being addressed.<\/p>\n Reports<\/a> suggest all of the county’s files are encrypted, and it is unclear when the systems will be back online.\u00a0 At this time, the specific ransomware variant has not been disclosed, nor has the ransom demand.\u00a0 It remains uncertain if the county will pay the ransom, or use their backup files to restore their systems.<\/p>\n For a list of ransomware attacks that have already taken place in 2018, you may click here<\/a>.
