On January 3, 2018, the ransomware variant, SamSam, infected the city offices of Farmington, New Mexico.\u00a0 The ransomware infection successfully encrypted multiple areas of the city office including the electronic bill pay and records processing.\u00a0 Although, the infection did not impact utility operations and the city office has made it clear<\/a>, there was not any interruption to public safety services such as emergency response teams.<\/p>\n At this time, most of the issues have been restored, without paying the $35,000 ransom demands.\u00a0 Farmington City offices are currently working with third-party investigators and the FBI to gather more information regarding the infection.<\/p>\n We have created a map, see below, of the ransomware attacks that have taken place in the U.S.\u00a0 The map is interactive.\u00a0 If you click on a pinged point, you will be able to gather additional information regarding each attack, where it took place, and if the ransom demand was paid.Other Ransomware Attacks<\/h4>\n
