{"id":58094,"date":"2017-10-09T14:33:56","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T19:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/?p=58094"},"modified":"2017-10-09T14:33:56","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T19:33:56","slug":"stop-infinite-alert-hoax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/stop-infinite-alert-hoax\/","title":{"rendered":"Shutting Down the Infinite Alert Hoax for Good"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Infinite Alert Hoax Could Be Taken Offline, With Your Help<\/h4>\n<p>October is cyber security awareness month, and it is during this month PC Pitstop hopes to put the infinite alert hoax to bed.\u00a0 Once and for all.\u00a0 However, in order to do so, we will need your help.<\/p>\n<h3>Infinite Alert Hoax<\/h3>\n<p>This hoax occurs when users visit an infected website.\u00a0 Upon infection, pop-up windows take over the user&#8217;s PC, claiming a virus has been detected and they must call a 1-800 phone number to gain &#8220;support&#8221;.\u00a0 Upon calling, you will be told to hit Ctrl+R, and type in various websites.\u00a0 These may include websites such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>www.fastsupport.com<\/li>\n<li>www.helpme.net<\/li>\n<li>www.support.se<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These websites provide remote access control, allowing the &#8220;tech support staff&#8221; to gain access to your computer.\u00a0 They will do everything in their power to gain your trust.<\/p>\n<p>However, once you start to question their authenticity, they become incredibly defensive.\u00a0 If you continue to question their legitimacy, they will likely hang up on you.\u00a0 A true tech support company would not do this.<\/p>\n<p>Here at PC Pitstop, we have made it our mission to put a stop to the infinite alert hoax once a for all.\u00a0 One thing you can do is call the numbers affiliated with this hoax.\u00a0 DO NOT allow them to take over your PC.\u00a0 Instead, we want you to call and tie up their phone lines and take up as much of their time as you can.\u00a0 By doing so, they will be busy with people who know it&#8217;s a scam and have less time to victimize innocent people.<\/p>\n<p>The second thing you can do is join our mission.\u00a0\u00a0We are archiving the URLs of infected websites. By joining the team, we will provide these URLs.
