{"id":57776,"date":"2017-08-28T15:00:45","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T20:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/?p=57776"},"modified":"2017-08-28T15:00:45","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T20:00:45","slug":"10m-available-refunds-tech-support-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/10m-available-refunds-tech-support-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"$10M Available in Refunds for Tech Support Victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The FTC Orders Advanced Tech Support to Pay $10M in Refunds<\/h3>\n<p>Advanced Tech Support, previously known as Inbound Call Experts, is a company that used online ads, search results and even partnered with software companies to scam users. \u00a0The ads\/alerts were claiming the device was in need of technical support and the user was urged to call Advanced Tech Support to remediate the issue. \u00a0However, there was never an issue with the device.<\/p>\n<p>The FTC recently won a case against Advanced Tech Support. \u00a0The company was ordered to pay $10 million in restitution for the victims of their scams. \u00a0Soon, the FTC will be sending out emails to those who are entitled to a partial refund. \u00a0The FTC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumer.ftc.gov\/blog\/2017\/08\/10-million-refunds-bound-consumers\">stated<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The FTC\u2019s emails about refunds in this case will come from <a href=\"mailto:subscribe@subscribe.ftc.gov\"><strong>subscribe@subscribe.ftc.gov<\/strong><\/a>. Your email will have a claim number and a PIN that will give you access to apply for a refund. If you get an email, follow the instructions and respond by October 27, 2017. \u00a0\u00a0If you choose, you don\u2019t have to click on the link in the email.
