{"id":57418,"date":"2017-07-05T13:42:24","date_gmt":"2017-07-05T18:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/?p=57418"},"modified":"2017-07-05T13:42:24","modified_gmt":"2017-07-05T18:42:24","slug":"investing-bitcoin-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/investing-bitcoin-worth\/","title":{"rendered":"Investing in Bitcoin &#8211; Is it worth it?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Bitcoin Value Continues to Grow<\/h4>\n<p>With the rise of ransomware, the value of bitcoins has risen exponentially. \u00a0Ransomware, malware that encrypts your data and holds it hostage until a payment demand is made, typically in bitcoin, continues to spread daily. \u00a0Rarely a day goes by that a new ransomware attack, or ransomware variant, is not publicized. \u00a0Because of the higher demand for bitcoin, the value of the currency continues to rise. \u00a0This means, early investors in this crypto-currency, have made a fortune. \u00a0But the investment does not come without a risk.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a <a href=\"https:\/\/bravenewcoin.com\/news\/fourth-largest-bitcoin-exchange-bithumb-hacked-for-billions-of-won\">bitcoin exchange facility was hacked<\/a>. \u00a0The exchange center, Bithumb, located in South Korea, is one of the largest exchange centers worldwide, accounting for 10% of the global bitcoin trade. \u00a0According to <a href=\"https:\/\/bravenewcoin.com\/news\/fourth-largest-bitcoin-exchange-bithumb-hacked-for-billions-of-won\">Brave New Coin<\/a>, the hack resulted in 1.2 billion won ($1M USD) being lost. \u00a0Consumer account data was also breached. \u00a0The exact result of all of the breached accounts is uncertain at this time, although it&#8217;s a recipe for disaster. \u00a0The account data breached included the users&#8217; names, email addresses, and mobile phone numbers.<\/p>\n<h4>Risky Investment?<\/h4>\n<p>One could argue all investments are risky. \u00a0Which they are. \u00a0However, most of the risk is correlated to the unknown trends in the value. \u00a0Are you going to be able to sell for a larger amount than the initial investment?
