{"id":56502,"date":"2017-02-23T12:16:55","date_gmt":"2017-02-23T18:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/?p=56502"},"modified":"2017-02-23T12:38:10","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T18:38:10","slug":"breaches-users-cant-take-blame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/breaches-users-cant-take-blame\/","title":{"rendered":"IT Breaches &#8211; Users Can&#8217;t Take All The Blame"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Users May Not Be To Blame For Security Breaches<\/h4>\n<p>Can users be to be blame for the security breaches that seem to be hitting nationwide?\u00a0 Not entirely, but they certainly seem to be the scapegoat.<\/p>\n<p>Employers must be held accountable for the technology they provide their employees.\u00a0 If they are not supplying an adequate security solution, and patch management services, the employee cannot be blamed for that.\u00a0 Similarly, if the company wants information stored on a cloud based solution, they need to provide a secure, private solution.\u00a0 If the employer does not do so, the employees cannot be held accountable if they use public services and end up with company data breached.\u00a0 It is also important for employers to take the time to educate their employees on cyber security.<\/p>\n<p>The point is, employers need to be held responsible for the services they are offering their employees.\u00a0 If they choose not to provide appropriate security services,\u00a0employee training,\u00a0or secure platforms how can employees be blamed for breaches?\u00a0 They cannot.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Angela Sasse, professor of human-centered technology and director at the UK Research Institute in Science of Cyber Security at University College London, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/article\/it-security-breaches-why-users-shouldnt-take-all-the-blame-anymore\/\">stated <\/a>to ZDNet,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In order to have a chance of improving cybersecurity in the workplace, those issuing security directives must &#8220;stop asking people to do impossible things&#8221; and placing blame on employees.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t make it easy for people to do the right thing, you&#8217;re wasting money on security awareness.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Users May Not Be To Blame For Security Breaches Can users be to be blame for the security breaches that seem to be hitting nationwide?\u00a0 Not entirely, but they certainly seem to be the scapegoat.
