however, in order to use it, subscribers will need to enable the\u00a0feature. \u00a0Step-by-step instructions on how to do so, are provided at the end of this article.<\/p>\n<p>It is\u00a0still encouraged users clean their registries for the following reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The registry holds details about every piece of your computer.<\/li>\n<li>Things are added to the registry daily.\u00a0 Unfortunately outdated things are rarely, if ever removed.\u00a0 That is unless the user does it themselves.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s good PC maintenance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Why Remove It?<\/h4>\n<p>PC Matic CEO, Rob Cheng, states,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;PC Pitstop&#8217;s first product was Optimize and it included many Windows optimization features, including registry optimization.\u00a0 It is these features that were wrapped into PC Matic, which over a decade later performs maintenance on millions of computers.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lingering question in the software industry.\u00a0 How important is registry cleaning?\u00a0 I have personally fixed hundreds of computers using PC Matic.\u00a0 In certain instances the computer behaved remarkably better, and the only thing I could attribute the improvement to was registry cleaning.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Since Optimize was introduced in 2004, our products have cleaned tens of billions of registry entries and keys.\u00a0 My view has always been that there is some marginal, though at times unquantifiable benefit, to registry cleaning and best we can tell there is no downside to the customer.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Bleeping Computer when analyzing the quality of our security also included a concern about our continued use of registry cleaning.\u00a0 Part of the Malwarebytes&#8217; justification for PC Matic&#8217;s PUA categorization was registry cleaning.\u00a0 For these reasons, we have decided to remove default registry cleaning in PC Matic and PC Matic Pro.\u00a0 The reason is that registry cleaning is distracting our message of superior security made in America.\u00a0 From our humble roots of a simple registry cleaner, we have evolved into an industry leading security solution.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4>Impact on Current Customers<\/h4>\n<p>For current customers, any scans moving forward will not have the registry cleaning feature implemented.\u00a0 If you would like your registry to be cleaned, you will need to enable the tool.\u00a0 To do so, you will need to open PC Matic, and click on &#8220;Master Scheduler&#8221; as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-56569\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/master-scheduler.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"798\" height=\"570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/master-scheduler.png 798w, https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/master-scheduler-768x549.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using your PC Matic license for multiple PCs, you will want to select which you&#8217;d like to enable this feature for. \u00a0Or you may &#8220;Select All&#8221; on the top right. \u00a0Then click &#8220;Schedule&#8221; on the bottom right of the screen.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-56570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scheduler.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scheduler.png 800w, https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/scheduler-768x547.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The registry clean option defaults to &#8220;Off&#8221;. \u00a0To turn it on, you will need to click on the drop down arrow by &#8220;Clean Registry&#8221;. \u00a0By turning the feature on you will have the registry cleaning feature enabled again.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not see the &#8220;Clean Registry&#8221; option, you will need to close PC Matic and open Internet Explorer (IE). \u00a0Once IE is open, clear your cache. \u00a0You can do so by pushing Ctrl+Shift+Delete. \u00a0Once this is done, open PC Matic and follow the instructions above. \u00a0Now when you access the screen below, you should see the registry cleaning option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-56571\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/registry-clean.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/registry-clean.png 800w, https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/registry-clean-768x547.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Be sure to click &#8220;Save&#8221;
