Top European hotel, Romantik Seehotel J\u00e4gerwirt, located in Austria,\u00a0was recently infected with ransomware.\u00a0\u00a0The variant, although unknown, took complete control of the hotel’s day-to-day operations.\u00a0 This included not only encrypting hotel files, but also interrupting their electronic key system for guest rooms.<\/p>\n
Due to 80 guests being unable to access their rooms, hotel officials felt as though they had no choice but to pay the ransom.\u00a0 The hotel\u00a0paid the cyber criminals\u00a01,500 EURO (roughly $1,600 USD).\u00a0 Upon doing so, the hotel’s systems were restored.<\/p>\n
