Surveillance Cameras Inoperable After Ransomware Attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Surveillance Cameras Infected With Ransomware<\/h4>\n<p>Days before Trump&#8217;s inauguration, the Metropolitan Police Department discovered 123 surveillance cameras were inoperable due to two separate ransomware infections.\u00a0 The infections were found on January 12th and by January 15th the systems had been restored.\u00a0 Investigators resolved the issues by identifying and disconnecting the infected devices.\u00a0 All of the software was removed from these devices prior to a full-system restart.\u00a0 Fortunately, this corrected the issue.<\/p>\n<p>The ransomware variant used to take down the surveillance system was not disclosed, nor was the ransom demand.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2017\/jan\/28\/police-surveillance-system-hacked-dc-days-prior-tr\/\">Washington Times<\/a>, public safety was never jeopardized.\u00a0 This statement may be\u00a0a reach, considering several places that could not be watched were areas where tens of thousands of people gathered for the inauguration on January 20th and the march on January
