This has been a rough year for California medical institutions being victimized by ransomware.\u00a0 Another medical facility, East Valley Community Health Center, located in West Covina was struck with ransomware in October of 2016.\u00a0 Reports by Health\u00a0Data Management<\/a>\u00a0state the facilities computer systems were fixed within a day of the attack, and the infection was able to be isolated.\u00a0 It is believed the IT department was able to remediate the issue using backup files, and no ransom demand was paid.<\/p>\n Sounds good, right?\u00a0 Yes, until the health center realized thousands of patient files were compromised.\u00a0 The information breached includes names, addresses, diagnosis codes, birth dates, medical record numbers and insurance account information.\u00a0 The total number of individuals impacted is believed to be roughly 65,000.<\/p>\n To see a full list of ransomware attacks that have taken place, you can click here<\/a>.\u00a0 We have also created a ransomware map, see below, of the ransomware attacks that have taken place in the U.S. this year.
