Scammers Portray IRS – Scamming Affordable Healthcare Act Insurance Recipients<\/h3>\n

It’s not surprising that scammers are once again portraying the IRS.\u00a0 According to News 4 JAX<\/a>, scammers are targeting individuals who receive insurance through the Affordable Healthcare Act.\u00a0 The scammers are emailing,\u00a0texting, and\u00a0even sending physical mail to\u00a0these individuals claiming they owe the IRS money for their insurance coverage.\u00a0 If you receive one of these emails, it is encouraged you send it directly to phishing@irs.gov.\u00a0 Upon doing so,\u00a0delete the email, and then deleted from the trash bin as well.<\/p>\n

Although the scammers are using this as a cash scam, according to KnowBe4<\/a>, it could soon be used as bait to spread malware.<\/p>\n

Here are a few tips for readers to identify fake IRS correspondence:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The IRS will not send you an email.\u00a0 Also, the IRS will also, not call you.\u00a0 If the IRS does need to contact you, they will do so by mail.<\/li>\n
  2. The IRS requires payments be made to the U.S. Department of Treasury.\u00a0 Not the “IRS”.<\/li>\n
  3. These said payments, will always go to an official IRS processing center.\u00a0 If you find the address is not an official IRS processing center, do not send a the payment.<\/li>\n
  4. To determine if you do owe the IRS outstanding funds, you may call them directly at 1-800-829-1040<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
