On September 19, 2016, Hutchinson Community Foundation, in Hutchinson,\u00a0Kansas,\u00a0found out they had been hacked.\u00a0 Not only had they been hacked, but they were hit a ransomware attack.\u00a0 Ransomware is the malware that will encrypt users files, locking them until the ransom demand is paid.\u00a0 According to KSN News<\/a>, the foundation had back ups of all of their information; therefore, they were able to recover their files without having to pay the cyber criminals.<\/p>\n Unfortunately, as Hutchinson County Foundation dug deeper, they found along with ransomware, their data had been hacked as well.\u00a0 They are uncertain how much data was leaked to the hackers, but it could include the 5,500 donors, stake holders and vendor files.\u00a0 For now, the foundation is notifying everyone of security breach and offering free credit reporting services.<\/p>\n To see a full list of ransomware attacks that have taken place, you can click here<\/a>.\u00a0 We have also created a ransomware map, see below, of the ransomware attacks that have taken place in the U.S. this year.
