Earlier this month, the Honolulu Fire Department was attacked with ransomware<\/a>.\u00a0 The attack infiltrated the system when two or three city employees used city computers to check their personal email.\u00a0 Once the ransomware was detected, the administrative computers were taken offline.\u00a0 This was an attempt to mitigate the risk of additional data being compromised.<\/p>\n Luckily, the city backs up their data daily.\u00a0 Therefore, they were able to restore their systems without having to pay the ransom.<\/p>\n To see a full list of ransomware attacks that have taken place, you can click here<\/a>.\u00a0 We have also created a ransomware map, see below, of the ransomware attacks that have taken place in the U.S. this year.
