A major change to\u00a0Rule 41\u00a0could be passed that allows for the FBI to use malware as a “search” tool…<\/h3>\n

Malware, a malicious software, could be placed on thousands of computers with a single warrant, if Congress does not block the changes made to Rule 41<\/a> by December 1, 2016.\u00a0\u00a0To be honest, when I initially read this\u00a0 I had two thoughts.\u00a0 First, I am not doing anything wrong so \u00a0if the government wants to “search” my computer they can.\u00a0\u00a0Second, if the government really wanted to\u00a0“search” something, they would find a way.<\/p>\n

Digging Deeper<\/h3>\n

However, after I think about this a bit more, what can installing malware on\u00a0users’ PCs do?\u00a0 If these are\u00a0users who are suspected of a crime, that is one thing.\u00a0 However, according to Wired<\/a>, these thousands of computers that could be impacted are\u00a0not those\u00a0under suspicion.\u00a0 So, why infect these endpoints with malware?\u00a0 I am far from working\u00a0for the\u00a0Central Intelligence Unit, or Special Ops, but I think I am missing a piece of this puzzle.<\/p>\n

Installing malware on innocent third-party computers could be detrimental.\u00a0 What if something goes wrong and the malware\u00a0installed shuts down the main\u00a0systems or particular programs.\u00a0 If\u00a0it’s one person, that is one thing.\u00a0 But, we aren’t talking about one person, we’re talking about thousands.\u00a0 Therefore, more than likely we’re talking about businesses.\u00a0 What would you do\u00a0if\u00a0your business’s systems\u00a0were shut down for a\u00a0week, a day, or even\u00a0an hour because of some malware the federal government infected you with?<\/p>\n

Lets keep going.\u00a0 What if this was a medical facility?\u00a0 We have all heard about the ransomware attacks that have shut down operations at hospitals and clinics, so who is to say something like that couldn’t happen with this?\u00a0 Now, before anyone gets too antsy, I am in no way saying our government will use the malware maliciously.\u00a0 What I am saying is, mistakes can happen.\u00a0 Coding issues occur.\u00a0 Can we really jeopardize innocent\u00a0people’s lives over the FBI’s “search”?<\/p>\n
