explosion&#8230;<!--more--><\/h3>\n<p>Technology giant, Samsung, is recalling their latest phone, the Note 7, after there have been confirmed reports of the lithium battery exploding during or after being charged.\u00a0 As of today, there have been 35 reports of this incident.\u00a0 The financial cost of this recall is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/spotify-users-password-reset-not-hacked-other-companies-data-breaches-reuse-account-logins-2016-9\">expected to be astronomical<\/a>; however, Samsung believes customer safety needs to come first.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a video from Ariel Gonzalez, who reported his new Note 7 caught on fire shortly after charging it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Samsung Note 7 Caught Fire\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HQQOiilJwJ0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>This is not the first time the safety of lithium batteries has been questioned.\u00a0 In 2006, PC Pitstop helped to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/24\/laptops-are-still-exploding\/\">expose the danger of lithium batteries<\/a>.\u00a0 Another study was done in 2013 to see if any enhancements were made to increase consumer safety; however, the results were disappointing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Exploding Laptop - Lithium Ion Battery href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/01\/toshiba-recalls-100k-batteries-for-melting-hazard\/\"> recalled 100,000 lithium batteries<\/a> for a melting hazard.\u00a0 Let that sink in.\u00a0 Ten years after this experiment, lithium batteries are still being recalled due to safety issues.<\/p>\n<p>So my question is, what has to happen before alternative power sources are considered?\u00a0
