This year can be deemed the year of ransomware, but what does next year have in store?<\/p>\n

We Live Security<\/a> defines jackware as a malicious software that has intentions to take control over a device.\u00a0 Think of everything that you own that has an internet connection.\u00a0 Your smart TV, phone, refrigerator, or car.\u00a0 Those are all examples of what jackware could infect.\u00a0 Now think of a hacker having sole control of any of these devices.\u00a0 For instance, the temperature control of your refrigerator, or power to your TV, phone or car!<\/p>\n

We Live Security<\/a> provided an example of a self-driving car.\u00a0 In which, you simply swipe your card, provide your destination\u00a0and you’re\u00a0on your way.\u00a0 Or so you think.\u00a0 You look up and realize you’re traveling nowhere near your destination, and your demanded to make a payment to be rerouted.\u00a0 Scary, right?<\/p>\n

Any of these things could happen.\u00a0 Luckily, jackware is not live.\u00a0 There are no known reports of these instances occurring, but that isn’t to say it couldn’t in the future.\u00a0 One thing that needs to happen to prevent these catastrophes would be proper security software for the internet of things (IoT) devices.\u00a0 Unfortunately, many of these products are manufactured with cost efficiency in mind.\u00a0 Security software on a refrigerator or car is probably not on their radar.\u00a0 But it should be.<\/p>\n

As technology continues to advance, it is imperative that the IoT manufacturers understand the importance of proper user security protection.<\/p>\n
