11M Patient Records Breached in June Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In June alone, over 11 million patient records were breached, making the industry rethink various security components&#8230;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthcareitnews.com\/news\/11-million-patient-record-breaches-make-june-worst-month-information-security-2016\">Healthcare IT News<\/a>\u00a0reported, 11,061,649 patient records were breached in June, which is\u00a0more than any other month this year.\u00a0 Various instances reportedly\u00a0caused these incidents.\u00a0 Hacking activities accounted for less than half of the breaches.\u00a0 While others occurred due to employee, vendor and business associate error.<\/p>\n<p>So this leads us ponder, what can be done?\u00a0 Security software vulnerabilities do not account for all of these breaches.\u00a0 For instance, if an employee leaves a\u00a0device exposed that\u00a0information is accessible to anyone.\u00a0 Or, when an employee loses paperwork that information is now available to whomever happens to find it.<\/p>\n<p>How can this be fixed?\u00a0 The health care industry\u00a0will need\u00a0to look at security measures to be taken to mitigate the risk of patient record exposure and maintain HIPPA compliance.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, human error can attribute to a large number of breaches.\u00a0 Training employees not once, but on a consistent basis can help decrease the risk of record exposure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In June alone, over 11
