Oregon school district, Grant County Education Service District, shut down county and school email and internet operations after ransomware attack…<\/p>\n

Blue Mountain Eagle<\/a> reported email and internet operations are back up and running after a ransomware attack forced Grant County Education Service District (ESD) offline earlier this week.\u00a0 Superintendent for the district, Robert Waltenburg,\u00a0reported the ransomware attack was of the .LOL! variant.<\/p>\n

Although ESD is working to get all of their servers back online, Waltenburg reported a certain sense of paranoia doing so.\u00a0 The district is proceeding with extra caution when returning back to normal operations, and is working closely\u00a0with their IT team to enhance their security measures in an attempt to prevent any future attacks.<\/p>\n

ESD continues to work diligently to determine the root of the attack.\u00a0 It is believed it was a successful phishing scam.\u00a0 It is not being reported what the ransom demand was, or if it was paid.<\/p>\n
