Millions of Americans Have Bad ISPs…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Suffering from slow internet speeds?\u00a0 You are not alone.\u00a0 According to Digital Trends<\/a>, the FCC ran their annual deployment test and 34\u00a0million Americans are being denied the predetermined adequate internet speeds of 25 Mbps for downloads and 3 Mbps for uploads.<\/p>\n

The issue at hand isn\u2019t that 10 percent of Americans simply can\u2019t afford broadband connections that the Commission would consider up to par. Rather, the FCC\u2019s displeasure stems from the fact that 1 in every 10 Americans are effectively being denied\u00a0<\/em>the benchmark speed. Providers are simply unwilling or unable to serve a considerable proportion of homes with adequate broadband speeds.<\/p>\n

According to the FCC\u2019s recently released fact sheet<\/a>, the disparity between haves and have-nots in terms of Internet is particularly pronounced when it comes to geography.\u00a0The Commission cited a \u201cpersistent urban-rural divide\u201d that has left \u201c39 percent of the rural population without access to fixed broadband.\u201d Only 4 percent of those in urban environments, on the other hand, are in the same position.<\/p>\n

All this to say that when compared with our international peers, the U.S. is falling seriously behind. In fact, we rank just 16th out of 34 countries surveyed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
