Annoying Windows 8.1 Touch Keyboard<\/h4>\n

<\/strong>The Question: It\u2019s bizarre: I\u2019m running Windows 8.1 on my desktop system and there\u2019s a pop-up keyboard icon on the Taskbar. I have a keyboard, why is that showing up?<\/i><\/p>\n

<\/font><\/p>\n

Dave’s Answer: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t panic, the touch keyboard is an element of the annoying fact that Windows 8.1 is the same OS whether you\u2019re running a tablet with no keyboard or on a more traditional laptop or desktop PC with a perfectly good keyboard attached. You\u2019d hope that it could differentiate, but that\u2019s left up to you, the user. Fortunately disabling the keyboard icon is pretty darn easy.<\/p>\n

The secret is to know that, confusingly enough, it\u2019s considered a \u201ctoolbar\u201d addition to the Taskbar.<\/p>\n

Yeah, a toolbar.<\/p>\n
