{"id":46659,"date":"2013-11-19T03:21:37","date_gmt":"2013-11-19T03:21:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/?p=46659"},"modified":"2013-11-25T15:39:55","modified_gmt":"2013-11-25T15:39:55","slug":"trust-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/trust-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Should You Trust a Network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<h3>Should You Trust a Network<\/h3>\n<p>By Terry Stockdale for TerrysComputerTips.com<\/p>\n<p><i><font SIZE=\"2\">When connecting to a network while running Windows 7 or Windows 8 &#8211; you will be prompted with an option to Trust or Not Trust a Network.&#8211;PC Pitstop.<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p><strong>What does it mean to trust a network?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you connect your computer to a network, at least one dialog box should open warning you if you\u2019ve never connected to that network before. If you\u2019re running Windows 7 or later, you should get two separate queries.<\/p>\n<p>The first dialog box to open should be from your firewall program. If it\u2019s doing its job, it should identify that the IP addresses on the network and\/or the MAC address of the switch or router to which it is connected, are different than it has seen before.<\/p>\n<p>At that point, it should open a dialog box to warn you that you\u2019re connecting to a new network. That dialog box should also ask you if you want to trust that network. At this point, you should have to respond to the firewall program\u2019s dialog box before the firewall will allow any communications inbound to your computer or outbound from the computer.<\/p>\n<p>With a firewall program, the options are typically Trust the Network or Do Not Trust the Network.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.terryscomputertips.com\/computers\/what-does-it-mean-to-trust-a-network\/\" target=\"_blank\">So, what\u2019s the difference? &#8212; Article continued here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This post
