If you stick your head out of the water frequently and interact with other people on the Internet, you might also run the risk of being attacked at some point in time or another. By following a couple of tips, you can hold your own against those who want to harm you.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Disable NetBIOS<\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019m not kidding. Do it right now, if you haven\u2019t done it already. I can\u2019t stress how important it is to have NetBIOS disabled on a computer. With the feature enabled, you basically expose your entire network topography and shared files. Anyone and their dog can just hop into your network, access a specific directory tied to your IP, and see your most intimate documents. To disable NetBIOS on your computer, you need to access your network adapter\u2019s settings:<\/p>\n<p>1. Click your \u201cStart\u201d menu, then \u201cControl Panel\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>2. Click \u201cNetwork and Internet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/imagecdn.maketecheasier.com\/2011\/11\/network-networkinternet.png\" title=\"networkinternet\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"316\" height=\"69\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3. Click \u201cNetwork and Sharing Center\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/imagecdn.maketecheasier.com\/2011\/11\/network-networksharing.png\" title=\"network_sharing\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"500\" height=\"66\" \/><\/p>\n<p>4. Click \u201cChange adapter settings\u201d. This takes you to all the network adapters on your computer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/imagecdn.maketecheasier.com\/2011\/11\/network-changeadapter.png\" title=\"change\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"500\" height=\"411\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5. Right-click a network adapter you would like to disable NetBIOS on, and click \u201cProperties\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>6. Select \u201cInternet Protocol Version 4\u2033 from the list in the new window and click the \u201cProperties\u201d button below the list. Click \u201cAdvanced\u201d in the new configuration window then click on the \u201cWINS\u201d tab near the top.<\/p>\n<p>8. Click \u201cDisable NetBIOS over TCP\/IP\u201d then \u201cOK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/imagecdn.maketecheasier.com\/2011\/11\/network-advancedtcp.png\" title=\"advance\" class=\"alignnone\" width=\"416\" height=\"498\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This, of course, addresses only part of the problem.
