To continue on with the WHS theme I think now is a good time to walk through the installation process for those who will buy the software and install it on their own hardware. All-in-all it is pretty straight forward for those who&#8217;ve installed a Windows OS before, but there are a few caveats to be aware of.<\/p>\n<p>If you are still considering <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqzyfj.com\/click-2096278-10440897?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newegg.com%2FProduct%2FProduct.aspx%3FItem%3DN82E16832416443%26nm_mc%3DAFC-C8Junction%26cm_mmc%3DAFC-C8Junction-_-Software%2B-%2BServers-_-Microsoft-_-32416443&#038;cjsku=N82E16832416443\" target=\"_blank\">WHS 2011<\/a><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.awltovhc.com\/image-2096278-10440897\" target=\"_blank\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\"\/> be aware that you will need a computer with a 64-bit CPU (most AMD and recent Intel CPU&#8217;s fall in this category) and WHS 2011 is a 64-bit operating system. You can also save yourself some future headaches by planning carefully for your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davescomputertips.com\/articles\/server\/things_to_consider_before_installing_whs_2011.php\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Windows Home Server 2011 considerations\" target=\"_blank\">storage needs<\/a>, both now and in the future.<\/p>\n<p><b>Windows Home Server 2011 Minimum Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n<li>1 &#8211; 1.4GHz 64-bit single core processor. A multi-core CPU will provide a better experience.<\/li>\n<li>1 &#8211; 160GB hard drive(60GB for OS\/100GB for storage). Multiple drives provide more storage and provide more backup options.<\/li>\n<li>2 GB RAM. Will function with 2GB, but if you are considering media streaming 4GB should provide better results.<\/li>\n<li>10\/100Mbit Network Interface Card (NIC). Consider 1Gb if you have a gigabit network or plan one in the future.<\/li>\n<\/p>\n<h3>Let the installation begin! Server 2008 first.<\/h3>\n<p>WHS 2011 is like any recent Microsoft OS and can be installed from DVD or flash drive. As installation begins you are presented with the common &#8220;Windows is loading files&#8230;&#8221; screen. Nothing new here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_windows_loading.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_windows_loading-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"whs_2011_windows_loading\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-23491\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><BR CLEAR=LEFT><\/p>\n<p>Next up is &#8220;Starting Windows&#8221;, which is a little misleading as the installation is just starting!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_starting_windows.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_starting_windows-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"whs_2011_starting_windows\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-23493\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><BR CLEAR=LEFT><\/p>\n<p>After a few moments for the installation routine to load files you are given options for New Installation and Repair an existing installation. It&#8217;s important to note that the installation media (DVD or flash drive) can also be used to repair a previous installation that is borked, just like the screen shows. In this instance we are performing a new installation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_new_installation.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_new_installation-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"whs_2011_new_installation\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-23495\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><BR CLEAR=LEFT><\/p>\n<p>Next up you&#8217;re asked where you want to install the OS. In this example I only have one 160GB drive (the minimum) installed. Since this is a new installation all of the data on the drive will be deleted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_installation_drive.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcmatic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/20110810whs_2011_installation_drive-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"whs_2011_installation_drive\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-23496\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><BR CLEAR=LEFT><\/p>\n<p>This is a good sign!
