At least not easily, and even then<br \/>\nit depends on the data that you&#8217;re attempting to keep<br \/>\nprivate, and the technical savvy of the individuals that<br \/>\nyou&#8217;re attempting to keep it private from.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s nothing like your own computer. But if you have to<br \/>\nshare, there are a couple of things that might help. A<br \/>\nlittle.<\/p>\n<p>First, you must realize that anyone with administrative<br \/>\naccess to the computer can see everything. You can use<br \/>\nWindows file permissions to make files accessible to only<br \/>\nyou, but an administrator could still quite easily access<br \/>\nthose files using any number of techniques.<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re trying to keep things private from the system<br \/>\nadministrator, normal methods simply won&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ask-leo.com\/how_do_i_keep_my_information_on_a_shared_computer_private.html\" target=\"_blank\">What do you really need?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[This post is excerpted with Leo&#8217;s permission from his <a href=\"http:\/\/technologizer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ask Leo<\/a> blog.]<\/p>\n<p><i>Leo Notenboom has been involved in the tech industry for nearly 30 years.
