Ransomware Attacks

Lincoln County Hit with Ransomware Twice in a Matter of Weeks

Ransomware Has Hit North Carolina’s Lincoln County — Again…

Lincoln County has been hit with yet another ransomware attack, just weeks after hackers corrupted their systems the first time. The initial attack infected the county’s networks, targeting the police department servers. The second has effectively taken down the county’s Communications Center. The county has assured citizens all communications, including 911 services, are still working. However, instead of receiving the data over a computer, it will be communicated via radio. It is not certain if this will impact response times.

County officials have stated they have not found any evidence of a data breach. However, the county does plan to continue their investigation. The exact ransomware that corrupted Lincoln County networks has not been disclosed. To date, the hackers have yet to make ransom demands.
