There are heartless people, and then there are hackers. I don’t know of anyone who would believe it to be morally okay to use such a devastation to their advantage, but I suppose I don’t know anyone who thinks it’s okay to steal money and information from people either. So perhaps my point is moot.
Regardless, you need to be on the lookout for hackers sending out various emails requesting a charitable donation, information on blood donations, or even videos of the event occurring. These phishing scams are rather common whenever a tragedy occurs, as we have seen similar scams popup after natural disasters and celebrity deaths.
I strongly advise you to check out the article by KnowBe4 about this very issue. They also provide a written email you may send out to friends, family and colleagues warning them of this very issue.
