Best Secondary Web Browser?

By now most of us are familiar with Mozilla Firefox, and a lot of us prefer it over the pre-installed Internet Explorer, and the ancient Netscape, but there are several other browsers out there definitely worth a mention, and could possibly have you guys wanting to make a switch. Here are the top ten web browsers for 2009 according to several PC magazines ranked by features set, speed, security, ease of use, and help & support.

I have some Web sites for you that are kick-in-the-butt cool; others are just plain handy, the kind of thing you save for only occasional visits. How about an image resizer and a nifty online walkie-talkie? And I use TimeZone Converter to find out what time it is in Singapore (so I can call my friend at 2:00 a.m. his time to see if he’s in yet from club hopping).

Bits from Bill: Facebook May Not Be For Everyone

A few years ago I joined Facebook to write about privacy issues with their Beacon advertising system. I was quickly sucked in by the fun, convenience and easy ability to keep in touch with family and friends. I really enjoy the ability to share photos and even love to see vacation photos and cute babies from people I don’t really know in real life. While I am continuing to use Facebook, it may not be for everyone.

Firefox…Your Guess is as Good as Mine

I remember the good old days when I used Internet Explorer 6 and it seemed everyone else was using Firefox 2.0. Of course that wasn’t the case as Firefox only had about 15% market share, but users were very vocal about telling you what the best browser was. If I were to write a discouraging word about Firefox, I would get roasted a crispy brown like a turkey in November.

They say that when God closes a door, he makes you use Windows. Of course, it depends on what kind of God you have as to what version he makes you use. My God would make you use Windows 7. Your God may not be so nice, and make you use Windows Vista. We have to deal with Windows, even if we don’t use it on a regular basis. Michael from the PCPitStop community wrote in asking about using Windows XP on his Vista machine. Let’s take a look at this, shall we?

Back to School Computer Shopping Guide

I was at a party, and more than one person asked me for advice buying a new computer. Here’s what I told them and I thought I would share.

Are you sure you need a new computer? This is not popular advice, but I honestly believe that most people don’t need a new computer. The main reason people purchase a new computer is because the old one is slow. The first question is whether they might want to save the money and get the old one running faster. It’s not just the money. You usually lose a day getting the new computer running like you want with all of your files moved to the new one.
